The iHV is committed to supporting health visitors with evidence informed resources that promote children’s health and wellbeing - and this includes the management of common childhood illnesses and prevention of unintentional injuries.

Health visitors, as Specialist Community Public Health Nurses, are ideally placed to support parental health literacy to manage common childhood illnesses through a public health approach focused on prevention and the provision of consistent and explicit advice (including ‘safety-netting advice’ as symptoms in babies and young children can rapidly change), and signposting families to primary and emergency care where this is needed.
