Screening is the process of identifying people who may have a higher risk of a disease or condition before any symptoms appear. The UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC) is the independent scientific body that advises the government and the NHS on which screening programmes should be offered to the public, based on evidence that the benefits outweigh the harms.

Each UK country sets its own screening policy based on the recommendations of the UK NSC. This means that there can be some differences in the screening offered.
