The Institute of Health Visiting (iHV) is an independent charity, professional body, and Centre of Excellence. We receive no NHS or government funding for our core work – but we think health visiting conferences are important.

Our events provide an important opportunity to bring practitioners together from across the UK to showcase the latest research, innovation and health visiting best practice. iHV conferences also attract delegates from outside health visiting, helping to raise the profile of our profession, build connections, shape policy and practice, and spread excellence.

However, running a conference is expensive. We always aim to keep our ticket prices as low as possible as we want as many people as possible to enjoy the experience.

Income gained through our ticket sales, exhibitor and sponsor fees helps us:

• To continue to offer high-quality iHV conferences, with a sustainable model that covers our costs. 
• Fund some of our essential unfunded work (e.g. advocacy, policy influencing, and work on health visiting education and standards with the NMC and partners)
• Raise the profile of health visiting and its vital role in improving health and reducing inequalities. 

The work needed to run a hybrid conference is similar to a face-to-face event. Having delegates attending online does reduce the size of the venue needed and catering costs – however, virtual tickets still incur costs for us as a charity, to cover:

• Conference management costs – for speaker and delegate support, event planning, marketing, finance and administration.
• The online conference platform, hybrid event design and management. 
• Tech support on the day for live streaming and filming to manage a hybrid event and recordings. 

Yes, all our conferences are CPD accredited. See the individual conference page for the CPD available. Certificates are sent to each delegate following the conference. 

Your ticket can be transferred to a colleague, or you may be eligible for a refund. See our Terms and Conditions below for further information regarding cancellations.

Conference recordings will be available to delegates for 2 months following the event. 

Yes, we offer tailored discounts for all our conferences, including:

• iHV member discounts*
• Concessionary discounts – for example, for SCPHN students, retired members and Fellows - where applicable (see the individual conference page for details)
• Group booking discounts
• Early-bird ticket rates.

Organising our conferences involves significant costs, including:

• Managing abstract submissions and peer review
• Event promotion, communications and conference management
• Speaker and delegate support
• Venue, catering, technical support, hybrid live-streaming and evaluation.

It is standard practice across leading charities for abstract presenters to pay a delegate fee to help cover these costs. At the iHV, we offer a special discounted ticket rate for all successful abstract submissions.

The iHV has subsidised its ticket prices to keep them as low as possible. The income that we bring in from presenter ticket sales does not cover our costs, but we have chosen this approach to enable as many researchers and practitioners to have the opportunity to disseminate their work and raise their profile on a national platform.

Sponsorship helps us:

• Cover our event costs – income from ticket sales alone does not cover our costs
• Keep ticket prices affordable
• Generate income to support our charitable objectives
• Promote the work of other charities and organisations that are working to help reduce health inequalities - and who have been carefully selected as we believe that their work will be of interest to our delegates.

We only work with organisations whose values align with ours. All our exhibitors, sponsors and partnerships undergo an ethical review.  

Our collaborations are intended to generate shared learning. Our priority is expertise, skills and alignment with our vision and purpose, over and above any financial benefits. 

• We only work with organisations that meet high ethical standards and comply with the WHO International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes.
• We do not partner with companies linked to tobacco, alcohol, weapons, fast food or high-sugar foods.
• We do not partner with faith, religion or equivalent systems of belief, or political or lobbying groups.
• We do not partner with Infant Formula milk/ breast milk substitute companies, including all affiliated organisations.
• We do not partner with companies that produce products that promote unsafe sleep practices or pose a child safety risk.
• We do not partner with companies that relate to a controversial health issue, or product with unfounded health benefit claims.
• We protect personal data and uphold equality, integrity and sustainability in all activities. 
• The iHV recognises its responsibility to safeguard and protect the welfare of all children, young people, and vulnerable adults, by a commitment to practice which protects them.
• The iHV will uphold the highest standards of integrity and will listen to and respect the opinions of others.
• The iHV will be objective in its actions, and honest and transparent in its activities and when working with partners.
• The iHV will operate within the law.
