Health visitors frequently encounter a wide range of potential allergy-related presentations, including skin conditions such as eczema, respiratory symptoms such as asthma and hay fever, and gastrointestinal disturbances. It is important that they have sufficient knowledge to consider allergy as a possible underlying cause and to assess symptoms appropriately, including recognising when management can remain within primary care and when referral to specialist services is warranted.
