Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) is a serious complication of pregnancy which requires active intervention and treatment - it is much worse than the normal nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (sometimes called ‘morning sickness’). Signs and symptoms of HG include:
- Symptoms starting in early pregnancy and may not resolve by 16 to 20 weeks
- Prolonged and severe nausea and vomiting
- Ability to eat and drink normally is affected
- Dehydration – symptoms include feeling thirsty, tired, dizzy or light-headed, not peeing very much, and having dark yellow and strong-smelling pee
- Weight loss
- Activities of daily living are severely limited.
