Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is a preventable condition caused by prenatal exposure to alcohol, causing a diverse range of effects that can impact the individual throughout their lifetime. Health visitors are ideally placed to ensure that prospective parents are made aware of the benefits to the baby of avoiding alcohol during pregnancy, including preventing FASD and reducing the risks of low birth weight, preterm birth and the baby being small for gestational age.
