Our Air, My Lungs: Respiratory Health Ambassadors Training Programme aims to enable health visiting team members to become iHV Respiratory Health Ambassadors. Equipped with knowledge and understanding to become placed-based leaders in raising awareness of air pollution and its impact on health and chronic respiratory diseases in children under the age of 5 years.

The iHV has been supported by The Burdett Trust for Nursing to develop a programme of training for health visitors and skill mix teams to become iHV Respiratory Health Ambassadors.

The training was co-produced by parents and professionals to support practitioners in their roles as placed-based leaders in raising awareness of chronic respiratory disease in children under 5-years-old with colleagues and families.

  • This co-production work highlighted that families wanted health visitors to have a basic understanding of their child’s respiratory health condition.
  • Families wanted conversations with health visitors about air pollution – connecting them with trusted parent-friendly advice and resources.
  • A survey of health visitors highlighted a gap in training to support them in their role.
  • Health visitors wanted easy-to-understand evidence-based information and resources to support them in their conversations with families, and access to resources and training to support their continued professional development.
